QuakeCon 2012 Details Charge Down the Corridor

A healthy line up of guests, events, and demos should draw in the crowds.

The date and location of this year’s QuakeCon have been known for some time, but Zenimax has just provided the first details of what will be on the show floor.  The event will kick off with John Carmack’s keynote address at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas on August 2.  A host of other panels will follow through the duration of the conference that wraps on August 5.  Panels like “The Game of Making Games” and an Idle Thumbs Podcast will provide a steady flow of things to do while giving your rig a break from the “world’s largest LAN party.”

Doom 3 Source Code Now Available

Apparently John Carmack rewrites game engine code quickly.

Less than a week ago, we reported that the Doom 3 source code was approved for release, but temporarily delayed due to a potential copyright infringement. John Carmack stated an intention to rewrite the section of code in question to ready the source for release. Work must have been completed in a timely fashion, as the source code is now readily available through GitHub.

Doom 3 Source Code Will Be Slightly Tweaked

...since some code could be legally unfeasible.

John Carmack announced at QuakeCon 2011 that the source code for Doom 3 would be released to the public as open source after the release of RAGE. However, some of the source code will probably be rewritten to avoid some legal hassles with Creative Labs.
